I started this site because I want to do something to prevent the extinction of sharks. The wholesale slaughter of this species, "the lion of the seas", is indicative of the depths to which humankind will fall to satisfy its greed for money. Sharks have been living in the oceans for hundreds of millions of years, yet three or four decades is all it might take for us to eliminate them from the seas, never to be seen again.

There are few things that sadden a heart more than to know that you form part of the generation that is bringing the world to its end. Those who place profit higher than ecological well-being are denying your children, and all future generations, the chance to witness the beauty of a creature as magnificent as the shark. Those who treat the planet as a resource to be plundered live among us and I believe they should be challenged. Some of us believe we are powerless. But if we each assume our own personal responsibility to do our part to protect the planet and to fight for the survival of all its species, and ultimately the survival of our own, then we can achieve good things.

This page is simply me trying to do what I can to stop sharks becoming extinct and to stop their needless sufferring.

My aims are twofold:
I want to alert people to the problem of shark finning.
I want the site to be a place where people can find information about action they can take to protect sharks. This action can be of any form (direct action, email/letter writing, petitions, protests and demos, etc) and can be proposed by individual or organisation. If you have information about activities that you want posted just contact me with the details.

This site does not accept donations because StopSharkFinning.net is not an organisation, it is just one person trying to stop a barbaric and cruel trade.
